I am very happy to have found this pet clinic to provide care for my cat! The staff here are excellent! They are very warm, caring and work well as a team. They're friendly to both meow and I every time we visit.
Previously, I had tried to find a place to provide care for my meow. I was new to all this 'fur mom' stuff as Buttfurs was the first stray cat I interacted with. I was slowly transitioning him to being less "homeless, never had a bath before, running these streets" to a "pampered, meow king, with his own safe house territory". I went into a 'place that shall not be named' and ask how I should go about transporting him and getting him to visit the vet. I was met with cold, disapproving and dismissive glances... just wow. One thing for sure, we were never going there.
I've passed The Honolulu Pet Clinic numerous times on my way to other places. I figured I'd walk in and check it out. I was greeted by Patty and immediately felt her inviting and sunny atmosphere. I explained to her my dilemma of trying to get meow to the vet because he's never been and recently he had injured his hind paw pad in a fight with another cat. We made an appointment for that week. I didn't have any pet carrier and she showed me the Pet Taxi cardboard boxes they sell. I bought one.
I kept meow in the house after the injury to care for the paw but he'd still try his best to escape. Actually the day of the appointment he had popped the screen and jumped out of the window. Luckily the leash to his harness got caught in the window frame and I found out in time. I took meow to the appointment. I explained his 'prison break tendencies' to the front desk person when I checked in and she offered to help me by getting a room for us to hang out in so meow would be contained if he tried to escape again. I was very thankful for her kindness. Once in the room meow seemed to be taking it all well. Curiously looking around and being very well behaved. I was shocked. *Surprised Pikachu face*
The Vet Tech came in to get meow's temperature, weight and to ask what was going on. Meow was pretty chill. Then Dr. Ed Hsu came into the room to exam meow. I noticed immediately how friendly the Dr was to meow and how receptive to being examined he made meow. He looked at meow's ear, eyes, teeth, all around his body and listened to his chest. Again, internally I had the *Surprised Pikachu face*. He let me know meow's wound was treatable and that cat's have resilient healing. He took meow to cut + clean his wound and injected some antibiotic and numbing medicines as well. Dr answered all of my questions. I was very happy to know meow was okay for the most part. Trilby helped me after the appointment and she mentioned to me about Trupanion pet insurance as meow liked to get into shenanigans. I also asked her about vaccines, microchipping, and neutering. She was very informative and helpful. She answered all of my questions. This whole visit was a very positive one. I knew I had found a pet clinic for meow.
On the way home, meow ended up clawing through and tearing up the cardboard box. He jumped out halfway of it while still in my Uber ride home, lol. When he got home he was super sleepy from the medicines and ended up having diarrhea for a few days that cleared up. I'm assuming it might've been from the antibiotic that was also injected. The office called back the next day to follow up on after care instructions and progress. This was very thoughtful and responsible of them. Meow's wound healed in a few weeks and he was back to shenanigans again.
After some shenanigans... I noticed his third eyelid/ nictating membrane was swollen and his eye were tearing up a lot. I made an appointment and took him to the vet again. This time Dr. Meghan Barrett examined him. She was very thorough in examining his eye for any foreign bodies or injuries. She prescribed some meds. The Vet Tech and Front Desk Staff were very helpful in explaining how to administer the meds. I asked about making a neutering appointment for when meow was feeling better and Paige helped me print out an estimate and explained everything in detail.
